The “2024 Most Successful Doctoral Dissertations Award Ceremony” was organized to honor high-quality scientific research carried out within Gazi University.

The event was held in the Rectorate Mimar Kemaleddin Hall under the coordination of the University’s Research and Development Institutional Coordination Office, with the contributions of Türkiye Halk Bankası A.Ş. and the support of the University’s institutes.

The event was attended by Gazi University Rector Prof. Dr. Uğur Ünal, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Necdet Hayta, Prof. Dr. Hasan Tezer and Prof. Dr. Serhat Karyeyen, Secretary General Mustafa Afşar, Deputy Secretaries General Asst. Prof. Dr. Sena Aydoğan and Ayhan Selçuk, Rector’s Advisors Prof. Dr. Selami Candan and Dr. Ahmet Bilal Dostbil, Research and Development Institutional Coordinator Prof. Dr. Mustafa Hicabi Bölükdemir, Halkbank Gazi University Branch Manager Güner Altınok, deans, directors, department heads, academics, guests and students.

The program began with a moment of silence and the singing of the Turkish National Anthem, followed by a musical performance. In his opening speech, Gazi University Rector Prof. Dr. Uğur Ünal emphasized the importance of doctoral studies. He stated that employees with doctorates are among the most important contributors to scientific research capacity in universities, research centers, industry, and certain public and private institutions. Explaining that supporting doctoral students and their activities is strategically important, Prof. Dr. Ünal said: “As one of the top three universities in our country producing the highest number of doctoral graduates over the last five years, Gazi University continues to make significant contributions to the world of science and assumes a pioneering role in this field.”

Prof. Dr. Ünal stated that, through this program, the most successful doctoral graduates and dissertation supervisors who guide scientific research and shape the future of the country would be honored. He noted that the Informatics Institute evaluated applications according to 22 criteria, the Institute of Educational Sciences according to 18, the Institute of Science according to 26, and the Institute of Health Sciences according to 17 criteria, and congratulated the owners of the most successful doctoral dissertations. He concluded by saying “Welcome to the world of science” to all doctoral graduates.

Following the Rector’s opening speech, the award ceremony began. Graduates who ranked first received their certificates of achievement from the Rector. Graduates whose dissertations were awarded second place received their awards from Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Necdet Hayta, Prof. Dr. Serhat Karyeyen and Prof. Dr. Hasan Tezer. Graduates who placed third received their awards from the institute directors.
