A memorial ceremony for the late Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu, Former Rector of Gazi University and Retired Faculty Member of our Faculty of Medicine, was held at the Rectorate’s Mimar Kemaleddin Hall.
The ceremony was attended by our Rector Prof. Uğur Ünal and the administration of our University, Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Nurullah Okumuş, Former Minister of National Education Prof. Ziya Selçuk, Former Minister of Interior Beşir Atalay, Rector of Ankara University Prof. Necdet Ünüvar, Former Rector of our University Prof. Musa Yıldız, and Founding Rector of Başkent University Prof. Mehmet Haberal, as well as deans, our University’s academic and administrative staff, the family of Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu, and students.
The ceremony began with a moment of silence in memory of Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu. Following this, Prof. İlyas Okur, Deputy Chief Physician of Gazi Hospital, delivered a presentation describing Prof. Hasanoğlu’s life, his academic achievements, and the unique contributions he made to the field of medicine.
In his speech, our Rector Prof. Uğur Ünal emphasized that the national and international studies conducted by Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu in the field of child health and diseases not only contributed to the academic literature but also touched the lives of countless children, giving hope to families and guiding young physicians. “For him, practicing medicine was not merely a profession, but also a reflection of a strong conscience and deep love for humanity,” he said.
Prof. Uğur Ünal stated that Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu will always hold a very special place for Gazi University, adding that the responsibilities he assumed during the development of our University, the vision he demonstrated during his administrative service, and the values he brought to our academic life continue to live on today.
Prof. Uğur Ünal noted that Prof. Hasanoğlu’s efforts, contributions, and legacy will always remain in the institutional memory of our University, and extended his condolences and patience to his esteemed family, relatives, colleagues, students, and the entire university community, praying for God’s mercy upon our valued professor Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu.
Prof. Aysun Bideci, Head of the Department of Child Health and Diseases at our University’s Faculty of Medicine and Member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish National Pediatric Society, emphasized that Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu was a scientist devoted to his homeland and nation. She stated that during the periods when he served as dean and head of the pediatrics department, he was always a pioneer in the achievements of our University’s Faculty of Medicine together with his wife, Prof. Alev Hasanoğlu. She also noted that with his contributions to the field of nephrology and the projects he carried out within the Turkish National Pediatric Society and the International Pediatric Association, he became one of our country’s most important scientific ambassadors.
Former Dean of Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine Prof. Ruhan Düşünsel drew attention to the importance of the legacy left by the late Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine during the eight years he spent in Kayseri. Prof. Ruhan Düşünsel mentioned the first pediatric kidney transplant surgery performed by Prof. Hasanoğlu within Erciyes University in 1985 and the great contributions he made to their faculty as well as to Turkish and global pediatrics, emphasizing that Prof. Hasanoğlu was an irreplaceable visionary who successfully represented our country in the international arena.
President of the Turkish National Pediatric Society Prof. Ayhan Dağdemir stated in his speech that Prof. Hasanoğlu made significant contributions to the international recognition of Turkish pediatrics and to the scientific, institutional, and international development of the Turkish National Pediatric Society, which he led. He also spoke about the scientific activities through which Prof. Hasanoğlu devoted great effort to training young pediatricians.
President of the Turkmeneli Cooperation and Culture Foundation Mete Nebil Muratlı stated that Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu was an exceptional figure who devoted his life to his nation, science, education, and raising new generations, and he offered condolences to his family and loved ones.
Rector of Ankara University Prof. Necdet Ünüvar noted that Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu’s dedication to work set an example for the entire academic world and wished God’s mercy upon our late professor, extending condolences to his family and loved ones.
Former Minister of National Education Prof. Ziya Selçuk shared memories of Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu, stating that he likened Prof. Hasanoğlu to a “polestar,” and that with the academic legacy and human character he left behind, he will continue to guide future generations.
Deputy Minister of Health Nurullah Okumuş stated, “We have lost an irreplaceable plane tree for Turkish medicine and a true guide for the world of pediatrics,” emphasizing that those gathered here today were not only bidding farewell to a scientist but also to a visionary, a teacher, and a great life devoted to child health. Nurullah Okumuş also noted that Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu was a global figure who represented our country at the highest levels within the International Pediatric Association, and he wished God’s mercy upon the deceased and extended condolences to his family and loved ones.
Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu’s daughter Başak Tuğçetin and his son Kerem Hasanoğlu expressed that they saw their father not only as a parent but also as a leader and guide whom they took as an example throughout their lives, and they thanked everyone who supported them during their father’s illness.
Following the ceremony at Mimar Kemaleddin Hall, the body of Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu was laid to rest after the funeral prayer performed at the Gölbaşı Cemetery Mosque.
