An academic cooperation protocol aimed at enhancing collaboration in academic, scientific, and cultural fields was signed between Gazi University and Baku Slavic University.
The signing ceremony, held at the Rectorate New Senate Hall, was attended on behalf of Gazi University by Rector Prof. Uğur Ünal; Vice Rectors Prof. Necdet Hayta and Prof. Serhat Karyeyen; Deputy Secretary Generals Assist. Prof. Sena Aydoğan and Ayhan Selçuk; Rector’s Advisors Prof. Selami Candan, Prof. Serdar Polat, and Ahmet Bilal Dostbil; and Director of the Turkish World Application and Research Center (TÜRKDAM) Prof. Bülent Aksoy. Representing Baku Slavic University were Rector Prof. Anar Naghiyev; Education Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Ankara Assoc. Prof. Necibe Nesibova; Deputy Education Counsellor Tural Gafarlı; Head of the Department of International Education Programs Nihat Ismayilzade; Head of the Department of Inclusive and Adaptive Education Arzu Mammadova; Head of the Department of Turkology Gülnara Aliyeva-Koşkun; Head of the Department of Balkan Studies Nurlana Mustafayeva; and Career Center Director Günel Nazarova.
In his opening remarks, Rector Prof. Uğur Ünal drew attention to the university’s deep-rooted history and its 100th anniversary, emphasizing his pleasure in hosting the delegation from Baku Slavic University. He noted that the fraternal ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan have been strengthened through concrete collaborations in higher education, adding that the previously signed protocol had now been expanded and reinforced. Stating that both universities possess strong academic expertise across a wide range of fields—from sports to the arts, health to technology, information technologies to education—Prof. Ünal underlined that this cooperation represents a significant step in line with the “one nation, two states” principle. He concluded by saying that by expanding and reinforcing the previously signed protocol, they were laying the foundation for a much stronger academic cooperation between the two universities and expressed his wish that the protocol would be beneficial for both institutions.
In his address, Rector of Baku Slavic University Prof. Anar Naghiyev expressed his satisfaction with the hospitality of Gazi University and conveyed his greetings and respect from Azerbaijan. Emphasizing that the “one nation, two states” understanding between Türkiye and Azerbaijan is rooted in the deep affection and heartfelt bond between the two peoples, Prof. Naghiyev stated that he was honored to represent Baku Slavic University, one of Azerbaijan’s most established higher education institutions with an 80-year history. He noted that the signed protocol would yield significant benefits for the future of both universities and for academic cooperation across the Turkic world. Prof. Naghiyev stated that Gazi University has always shared in Azerbaijan’s joys and stood together with them, and that he sincerely believed the protocol signed would produce highly beneficial outcomes not only for the two universities but also for the future of the Turkic world. He concluded by extending his heartfelt thanks to Rector Prof. Uğur Ünal and the entire Gazi University family.
