To honour and reward the outstanding scientists of the Turkish Academy of Sciences the nomination process has started for the 2022 International TÜBA Academy Awards, which was initiated in 2015 with the mission of promoting and appreciating scientific studies and scientific humanity and representing international relations.
The International TÜBA Academy Awards, which are given as one award in each category every year to those nominated in three categories, namely Science and Engineering Sciences, Health and Life Sciences, and Social and Human Sciences are awarded to scientists with original, pioneering and ground-breaking studies in the relevant field. Each year, one of the awards is given alternately between the three fields, only to scientists who are citizens of the Republic of Turkey or to those who have related studies linked to Turkey. The Turkey-related award for 2022 will be given in the Science and Engineering Sciences category, as the year 2022 has been declared the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development by the United Nations General Assembly. The awards in all three categories are open to all scientists in Turkey and around the world.
In the International TÜBA Academy Awards; candidates can be nominated by TÜBA members, University Rectorates in Turkey, Academies of Science and inter-academic organisations that TÜBA is associated with, and other scientific organisations and scientists that are invited. Current TÜBA members, employees and scientists involved in the evaluation processes cannot be nominated. In addition, the candidates proposed for the Academy Awards must not have received any other science awards given by public institutions and organizations in Turkey at the national and/or international level in the last three years.
Award winners are determined by the Academy Council based on the opinions of local and foreign referees and the evaluations of the field committees. The Academy Awards, consisting of the Academy Award Medal and Certificate, and a monetary award of approximately 30,000 USD, are presented under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, and will be delivered to its owners at a ceremony held at the Presidential Complex.
