CERN Accelerators, Detector and Data Analysis Workshop organized by the Institute of Science and Sciences of our University was held online.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, who gave the opening speech of the workshop, reminded that the 20th century was considered the Atomic Age, "With the discovery of radioactivity with atomic nucleus at the beginning of the 20th century, it was the beginning of a new era, especially in terms of particle physics and nuclear physics. The combination of information extracted from the atom with quantum mechanics paved the way for many discoveries and technological developments, especially with the introduction of computers and electronics in the second half of the century."
Explaining that the basic principles of the famous scientist Albert Einstein for atoms, light and the universe contributed significantly to scientific development, our Rector Prof. Dr. Yıldız said, "Since the beginning of the 20th century, the journey to the depths of atoms, matter and the universe has been made possible by the use of higher-energy particles. Therefore, particle accelerator and detectors played a very important role in this journey. Accelerators and detectors continue to evolve through our century. Today, it has played an important role in triggering the development of pioneering technologies from material to medicine, nanotechnology to biotechnology, energy to archaeology, space defense, communication to transportation." At the end of his speech, our rector wished a successful workshop and expressed his thanks to those who contributed.
Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Balıkçı, Chairman of the Turkish Energy Nuclear and Mining Research Institution "TENMAK" and chairman of the institution executive board, expressed his happiness that he was also a graduate of Gazi and was a part of such a workshop. He stated that he wants to reunite with Gazi University in different programs in the field of nuclear technologies.
Prof. Dr. Sema Bilge Jan was the director of the first session of the two-day workshop. In the first session, Ankara University Professor Prof. Dr. Ömer Yavaş "CERN: Achievements and Future Goals from Its Establishment to the Present", TENMAK International Relations Coordinator Berna Yüksel gave a presentation titled "Tenmak's Role as an Institution responsible for Relations with CERN", Dr. Ali Alaçakır "They Are Not Available to Develop Accelerator Technologies in Turkey", TENMAK Dr. Serdar Bulut "TENMAK Proton Accelerator Facility", Adıyaman University Professor Prof. Dr. Deniz Sunar Çerçi "CMS Istanbul University Group Detector Studies and Physical Analysis".
On the second day of the session, which was led by Gizem Açelya Aykan, the following presentations were given; "Information about FCC" by Dr. Frank Zimmermann from CERN, "KAHVELab Organizations and Activities" BY Bosphorus University Faculty Member Erkcan Özcan , "New Trends in CERN Experiments Perception Systems" By Beykent University Faculty Member Associate Professor Burak Bilki, "Data Analysis and Big Data in Particle Physics" by Ankara University Faculty Mmember Prof. Dr. Orhan Çakır and "Information about CMS Experiment at CERN"by Marmara University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Mithat Kaya. The workshop ended with a Q&A session after the presentations.
