The second of the vision conferences organized within the scope of the 95th anniversary of our university was held online. Our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Bekir Buluç, Prof. Dr. Fazlı Polat, Advisors to the Rector Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim Bülbül, Prof. Dr. Erdal Zorba, Prof. Dr. Alper Ceylan, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences Prof. Dr. Latif Aydos and guests attended the event titled "Gazi in the Perspective of Sports and Our Future. World and Olympic Champion Halil Mutlu took part in the event as speaker.
Making the opening speech of the program, our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız said, “From the moment we took office, we started to operate in various fields. Since this year is the 95th anniversary of our university, we have decided to sign under 95 events."
Expressing that they attach great importance to arts and sports as well as scientific studies, Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız ended his speech as follows: “I believe that victories on sports fields are as important as victories on battlefields. Today, we are very happy to be together with our former graduate, World and Olympic Champion Halil Mutlu. I believe that sharing his experiences will illuminate the path of our young athletes. I thank him for not refusing our invitation and participating in this event. "
Speaking after our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, World and Olympic Champion Halil Mutlu stated that he took Naim Süleymanoğlu as an example throughout his sports life. Mutlu said, “I chose Gazi University because Naim Süleymanoğlu is a "Gazili". Being a university graduate is very important, but graduating from a department you want is much more important."
After saying that he was born in the Kardzhali village of Bulgaria, Halil Mutlu continued his speech as follows: “In our local area, we had a brother named İbrahim who was engaged in sports and fortunately he was our neighbor. He heard of me when I was just a child because I beat many people in wrestling in the village. One day he came and asked me if I would like to be a weightlifter, and after getting the consent of my family, I started weightlifting at the age of 10. "
Saying that he motivated himself with the training he did before the competitions, World and Olympic Champion Halil Mutlu emphasized that the training he did well made him feel good in the competition. Mutlu said that seeing the Turkish flag on the bench after the competition was very exciting, and expressed that this moment was an indescribable feeling.
Halil Mutlu ended his speech with "To pursue my weightlifting dream I came to Turkey when I was 16 years old. As I grew older, I encountered many obstacles. The more difficulties I faced, the more motivated I became. I can never forget the first time I met brother Naim. The remaining successes, Olympics, medals, first places and championships are also unforgettable. I am someone with goals in life. My first goal was to participate in the competition in Bulgaria. Later, my goals gradually moved forward. You are alone at the top, so I always tried to push the records I broke even further. We are not born champions. I have lost matches; and thanks to them, I have reached the top. Our mission continues even after we quit sports. Let those after us see and benefit from us and not forget us. "
