3rd ASELSAN Academy Workshop is being organized online and hosted by our University. The three-day workshop began with the opening speeches of our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız and President of ASELSAN Academy Board Prof. Dr. Mehmet Çelik.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız in his speech, said that he is proud of our country's leadership in the defense industry as Gazi University and said, "Contributing to the increase of the human resource quality of ASELSAN, which is the leading institution in the industry sector as a result, increases our pride once again as a pioneering higher education institution."
Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız stated that there are 11 students in the PhD program and 147 students in the master's program in our University during the fall semester of the 2020-2021 academic year within the scope of ASELSAN Academy. Stating that 9 students graduated within the scope of Aselsan Academy Protocol, Our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız said that 24 of our faculty members have also advised to the students.
ASELSAN Academy is an exemplary model, which increases our competitiveness with the opportunities it offers for both our faculty members and enrolled students. Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız said that the program will contribute both to our country's defense industry and higher education with its expert and innovative structure in technology and engineering. Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız emphasized that this model will enable the programs in this field to be restructure, increase their effectiveness and expand.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Yıldız concluded his remarks by expressing that the faculties and faculty members of our university are ready to support the program with new research subjects.
President of ASELSAN Academy Board Prof. Dr. Mehmet Çelik began his remarks by thanking Gazi University, which hosted the workshop, and Our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız. Reminding by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Çelik that ASELSAN Academy was established with the participation of Gazi University, METU, ITU and Gebze Technical University in accordance with the protocol between Higher Education Council and ASELSAN, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Çelik stated that "ASELSAN Academy, which was established in order to include a new dimension to university-industry cooperation, was established as a fourth generation university model three years ago. ASELSAN Academy, which specialized in the subject, is the first and single application in Turkey.
Prof. Dr. Çelik reminded that they organized the first of the workshops at METU's TRNC Campus in 2018 and the second at ITU in 2019, and Prof. Dr. Çelik said that "ASELSAN Academy gave its first graduates this year.40 of our students graduated from the academy.26 of these completed electrical and electronics engineering, 11 completed mechanical engineering, 2 completed computer engineering and one completed materials engineering. At the end of the workshop, we will give diplomas to our graduates and plaques to the top three students. However, this year we are organizing a thesis competition for the first time. Prizes will be given to the ranking students and advisors. "
Çelik stated that "645 students continued their education in academy as of 2020-2021."The students of 575 master's degrees and 70 PhDs continue their education. We see that electrical and electronics engineering department is preferred primarily. In the meantime, we developed the Academic Information Management System (ABYS). All processes can be done electronically."
After the opening statements, the session was started where, Vice Rector of our University Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır, Vice Rector of Gebze Technical University Prof. Dr. Bülent Keskinler, Vice Rector of İstanbul Technical University Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Kızıl and Vice Rector of Middle East Technical University Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zeyrek gave information about new research topics and new developments of the universities.
The program is going to continue with presentations on the second and third days.
