Prof. Dr. Zeynel Seferoğlu, one of the professors of Faculty of Science, Department of Chemistry, Department of Organic Chemistry, published his article in the (European Journal of Organic Chemistry), the best organic chemistry journal in Europe and the second best in the world.
The article titled “A new mechanism for selective detection of cyanide in organic and aqueous solution” was published by Prof. Dr. Seferoğlu together with Prof. Dr. Nurgül Seferoğlu, Faculty of Science Institute Department of Advanced Technologies, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Aydıner, Department of Organic Chemistry Faculty Member and MA graduate student Ergin Keleş.
While the published article was used as the cover in the 2020/30 issue of the journal, the cover of the journal included a photo of the Rectorate Building of our University, which was built by the Architect Kemaleddin by order of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1926.
Regarding the content of the study, Prof. Dr. Seferoğlu stated that with the development of technology, they developed solutions for rapid detection of cyanide, which is increasingly used and poses a danger to nature, "The cyanide leakage that occurs as waste causes contamination of drinking water sources, loss of life of a large number of fish species and damage to agricultural areas. In order to quickly and precisely determine the cyanide that causes serious damage to the life of living things in a very short time, we have come up with a new method by quickly and selectively determining cyanide in organic and aqueous solutions on a mechanism recommended for the first time in the literature with our study in the chemistry laboratories of our University."
