The Gazi University Turkish Handicrafts Research and Application Center established a workshop in order to identify, promote, cultivate and provide training and production support within the scope of "Tirebolu Handicrafts Inventory Study and Tirebolu Fabric Training and Production Project".
The opening of the workshop was realized last month by the participation of Tirebolu Mayor Abdullah Karapıcak, Project Officer Recep Hıdır, Gazi University Director of the Turkish Handicrafts Research and Application Center Prof. Dr. H. Feriha Akpınarlı, the project group Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatma Nur Başaran, Research Assistant Dr. Vildan Bağcı, Reserach Assistant Pınar Arslan, graduate student Özge Öztürk, IL-CA Botanical Painting R & D Center Manager Berrin Çamur and the people of Tirebolu.
Handcraft products such as weaving and knitting in Tirebolu and sorrounding areas were prapared by Central Manager Prof. Dr. H. Feriha Akpınarlı and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatma Nur Başaran in the Weaving Workshop in the form of prototype products, without detracting traditional and cultural characteristics of them. The prepared products were exhibited at the opening of the workshop. Arslan and Aktürk provide training for participants in the workshop. Tirebolu fabric, made of cotton and 100 percent natural raw material, is produced by Tirebolu Municipality.
