PEARL “Emotional, Empathic and Proximal Learning Educational Environment” Project Meeting was Held at our University

A meeting was held at our university for the project titled PEARL "Emotional, Empathetic and Proximal Learning Educational Environment." The meeting was attended by, our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Bekir Buluc and Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır, Dean of Gazi Education Faculty Prof. Dr. Mahmut Selvi, Project Coordinator Stefano Cobello, Project Executive Prof. Dr. Esra Ömeroğlu and Project Researcher Elena Milli, as well as faculty members of our university and other participants from foreign partners of the project.


The project meeting which was held in the Rectorate Architect Kemaleddin Hall began with Project Executive Prof. Dr. Esra Ömeroğlu's opening speech. Esra Ömeroğlu, who said that holding such a meeting in the Rectorate building of our university was of great importance to them, gave information about the project. Describing PEARL as a symbol of kindness, Prof. Dr. Esra Ömeroğlu stated that the project is as valuable as a pearl. Expressing that every child is a pearl, Ömeroğlu said, “A child needs to be taken care of and protected. This applies to all children. We should see them as the future of the world.”


Following Prof. Dr. Esra Ömeroğlu, Project Coordinator Dr.  Stefano Cobello began his speech.  Emphasizing that the project symbolizes friendship rather than cooperation, Cobello stated that he is very happy to be at Gazi University. Describing Gazi University as a prestigious university, Dr. Stefano Cobello mentioned that it is not possible to realize this project without the project partners.


Gazi Education Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mahmut Selvi talked about the works carried out within the scope of the project. He said that the Turkish partner of the project is the Faculty of Gazi Education Department of Basic Education Preschool Education Program. Prof. Dr. Mahmut Selvi explained that the project, which started in September 2018, will end in August 2021. Mahmut Selvi said that the project aims to develop and test an innovative and reproducible education model at an international level, targeting the early childhood age group 0-6.


The final speech of the meeting was made by our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız.  Expressing that they are celebrating the 95th anniversary of Gazi University, Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız said that as management they attach great importance to making projects. Stating that he is very happy that our university is a partner in such a project, our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız said, “As Gazi University, we are ready to carry out better projects.” Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız concluded his speech by thanking the project coordinators.


After the opening speeches, our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Bekir Buluc, Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayindir and Prof. Dr. Mahmut Selvi presented the participants of the meeting with three sapling certificates, each planted in their name by our university.


After the opening speeches the meeting went on to the panel. Presentations were given by Dr. Stefano Cobello from Polo Europeo della Conoscenza (Italy) on the “Values ​​of Educational Emotions in Early Childhood Education - Pearl Erasmus+ Project”, Stephen Amukune from University of Szeged (Hungary) on “Using Games in the Evaluation of Executive Functions and Expertise Motivation in Preschool Children” and Ankara University Prof. Dr. Dilek Acer Çakar on “Early Childhood Art Education.” Hatice Sağlamer Kindergarten teacher Meral Gül, Yeşilevler Kindergarten teacher Arzu Kuyanç, Private Eryaman Hepçocuk Kindergarten teacher Münevver Yalçın and Tevfik Fikret Kindergarten teacher Melis Kızılkaya shared information on their experiences in applying the Pearl model.

In the afternoon session of the meeting, Dr. Selda Aras from Hacettepe University gave a presentation titled “An Action Research for Improving Interaction in Preschool Education Environments”.

In the last panel of the meeting, Marcela Calchei from the University of Szeged (Hungary) gave a presentation on “School Expertise Motivation Targets and School-Specific Expertise Motivation” and Dr. Gökçe Karaman Benli gave a presentation on “The Importance and Ways of Supporting Social-Emotional Development with Children's Books”.


The meeting ended after the closing speeches.


Polo Europeo della Conoscenza in Italy is the coordinator of the project which is carried out within the scope of the Strategic Partnership in Erasmus+ School Education.  The partners of the project include Consejeria De Educacion De La Junta De Castilla Y Leon (Spain), Panevezio Rajono Svietimo Centras (Lithuania), Gazi University (Turkey) and Clementoni (Italy). As the Turkey partner of the project, faculty members from Gazi University Faculty of Gazi Education, Department of Basic Education, Preschool Education program are carrying out the project.
