Student communities operating in Gazi University were awarded. "Student Communities Award Ceremony" was held on 4 October, 2017 in Mimar Kemaleddin Hall of Gazi University. The prize was awarded to 49 student groups who were successful last year.

Opening speech of the ceremony was made by Rector Consultant Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hacı Ahmet Pekel. Pekel, thanking all the student communities representing Gazi University on national and international platforms, said, "We have communities that work in partnership with institutions such as Red Crescent, Turkish Green Crescent Society, which serve for the benefit of public. The help of these communities for any child in a village school in the far corner of Anatolia is expressed in two words as 'social responsibility' but it is much more meaningful.

Gazi University Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Uslan said in his speech that there are 201 student communities operating in very different fields within the University and that the number of students who are members of these communities is 11.500. Uslan continued, "We are pleased with the number of our community and the number of community members who have added value to Gazi University in areas such as science, arts, culture, research, social responsibility and sports. It is pleasing to see such a beautiful picture in our university which serves many different fields. These activities, on the one hand, enhance the self-confidence of Gazi University students and develop the spirit of unity. On the other hand, the sense of integration of Gazi University students with the society is a building stone that looks like a building which extends to Turkey after the capital Ankara."

While presenting examples of the activities of student communities in his speech, Prof. Dr. Uslan noted that the communities were working as well as in the international arena. Uslan also conveyed that the Youth Turkish Green Crescent Society Group has been training in addiction prevention at the International University of Sarajevo with the project prepared by the Turkish Green Crescent Society financial support program.

Emphasizing that the student communities added value to the university in his speech, Uslan thanked the students for the activities they carried out on behalf of the institution. Members of student communities were given award by Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Uslan.
