Gazi University hosted Gazi University & Special Olympics Regional Games for the second time with the collaboration with Gazi University and Turkey Special Athletes Education Association (TÖSSED). 180 special and partner athletes participated in the games. Gazi University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Yaşar Aydemir, who made a speech at the opening ceremony of the games hosted by the university for the second time, said that he is happy to host our special children, their families, TÖSSED officers and Special Olympics Turkey Regional Games volunteers in Gazi University and expressed his happiness to be part of this event. He also stated that these kind of games are very important to strengthen the relations of our special children with the bulk of the society and to be a witness of their further  success.

Gazi University & Special Olympics Turkey Regional Games Director Didem Ünsür said that they were satisfied due to host of Gazi University, and she added that they work together with the university to support these kind of activities.

Gazi University Instructor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Levent İlhan said that they are happy to organize the Special Olympics in May each year in the framework of a cooperation protocol between Special Olympics Representation and Gazi University and they are proud to carry out the "Little Athletes Project" successfully. Then he thanked whole academic staff, special athletes, volunteers to our students, to the Presidency of the Health, Culture and Sports Department, in particular the Gazi University Rectorate, and precious teaching staff of Gazi University who encouraged the activity by taking place in this organization.

After the sincere thanks of Cevdet Kotan, the father of the champion special athlete, the students of Gazi University experienced pleasant minutes with aesthetic gymnastics, taekwondo and instrumental gymnastics, at the opening ceremony. Academics, coaches and university students, mainly composed of volunteers, provided support to Gazi University & Special Olympics Regional Games in Turkey.

After the opening ceremony, mixed basketball, athletics and table tennis competitions were held and the organization ended with excitement to  meet again in 2019 Gazi University & Special Olympics Regional Games in Turkey.
