Gazi University, giving great importance on science and scientific studies since its foundation, has been one of the ten research universities designated by the Council of Higher Education
Gazi University, a scientific center with tens of thousands of graduates and research centers and thousands of academicians, is proud of taking on a new mission for Turkey. The Higher Education Council, which aims to carry scientific researches in our country further, has announced that ten research universities will be selected for this purpose.
Gazi was declared a research university
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced ten universities as research universities at the 2017-2018 Academic Year Opening Ceremony held at the Beştepe Millet Culture and Congress Center on 26 September 2017.
As a result of a three-stage evaluation of approximately one hundred "output-focused" faculties over universities' existing academic and research infrastructures, performances and goals, Gazi University became one of the ten research universities. The research universities are in alphabetical order as follows: Ankara University, Boğaziçi University, Erciyes University, Gazi University, Gebze Technical University, Hacettepe University, Istanbul University, Istanbul Technical University, Izmir Advanced Technology University and Middle East Technical University.
What is Research University?
The purpose of the "Research Universities" determined by the Higher Education Council within the scope of "Regional Development-Focused Mission Discrimination and Specialization Project" is to produce qualified information within the scope of our country's priority areas and targets, to train human resources with high research competence and to increase international cooperation with the disciplines and institutions and to increase the visibility and awareness of Turkish universities in international rating systems. Research Universities will be supported according to their mission and defined strategic road maps in line with this objective.
Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Uslan who received the title of Research University from the President of the Republic of Turkey said, "We are proud to serve our country and university in the strongest way by working together; it is an important task and a great responsibility for this university. We will accomplish this task in the best possible manner with success ", he said. He added " I would like to extend my gratitude to all of our staff, especially our academics who are researchers. "
