Encouragement Award to Gazi University from Turkey Community Services Foundation

The project titled “Will you play with me?” prepared within the scope of the “Community Service Applications” course by the students of our university’s Faculty of Education Department of Special Education Division of Visually Impaired Student Education is granted the Community Service Award by the Turkey Community Services Foundation (TOVAK) given in the honor of the esteemed Prof. Dr. Yahya Özsoy.

 

 

One of the two award-winning projects among 17 studies, the project “Will you play with me?” is designed to improve the skills of visually impaired individuals such as map reading, direction finding and acting independently through orienteering. The project prepared by the senior year students of our university’s Faculty of Education Department of Special Education Division of Visually Impaired Student Education Elif Durmuş, Arzu Bedir, Huri Polat, Mehmet Emin Özdemir and Yasin Kızılçıbık set a basis for the activity held on the World Orienteering Day carried out with the visually impaired children.

The project prepared within the scope of “Community Service Applications” course has introduced the disabled individuals to the orienteering sports. Furthermore, the project owners has established an orienteering field at the yard of Ankara Mithat Enç Visually Impaired Student School and drawn the plan of this field for orienteering for the first time in the world, enabling the students to play orienteering game with the help of relief maps.
