A first in Turkey: Gazi University China Specialization Library opened

In celebration of the 90th anniversary, our University opened the first 'Chinese Specialized Library' in Turkey with the cooperation of the State Council Information Office of the People's Republic of China and the Renmin University of China.



The opening ceremony was held at the Gazi University Library, which has the second largest university library in Turkey. The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister Li Yuanchao of the People's Republic of China, Embassador of the the People's Republic of China Hongyang Yu, Chairman of Renmin University's Board of Trustees Jin Nuo, Foreign Minister, Minister of Education, Minister of Finance and State Secretary General of China. Our Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Uslan and Vice Rectors Dr. Suna Ağıldere and Prof. Dr. Alper Ceylan also joined the ceremony.



Gazi University Chinese Specialized Library, which is the 14th in the world but the first in the Balkans, Middle East and North Africa region, has 80,000 electronic books and works on Chinese history and culture. These documents on Chinese-Turkish relations will be released in Turkish, English, Chinese, French and Arabic in Gazi University Chinese Specialized Library.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Library, our Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Uslan said that since the ancient times, China and Turkey have been two important civilizations that have shaped the civilisation. He added "I am pleased to see that the relations between these two civilizations continue to increase." In his speech, Uslan emphasized that the existing cultural relations between China and Turkey should be taken to a higher level and he stated that with the establishment of the Chinese Specialized Library, Gazi University has become a center of Chinese studies in Turkey. Uslan stated that the Chinese Specialized Library will provide significant contributions to scholars, researchers, students and interested persons who want to work in China and work in the field of Synology in Turkey. He also said "we hope that this collaboration with Renmin University will lead future academic cooperation between two countries".



Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of Renmin University's Board of Trustees, Jin Nuo, said that the Chinese Specialized Library, the result of academic collaboration between Gazi University and Renmin University, will open a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries, and he also said the library will be an important platform for recognizing and understanding China. Nuo added that they have offered 50 Turkish student education opportunities up to this time, and he said that there are currently 7 Turkish students studying at their universities. Nuo also said that they hope that the academic cooperation between the two universities will deepen in the future, and he stressed that the Chinese Specialization Library will center on the Chinese studies in Turkey.



After the opening, Deputy Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China Li Yuanchao and his accompanying team visited the library, and watched and chatted with the library users.
