A panel titled “Welcoming Mustafa Kemal” was organized by the cooperation of Atatürk’s Principles and the History of Turkish Revolution Research and Application Center and Ankara Strategic Researches Foundation of our university due to the 97th Anniversary of Atatürk’s arrival in Ankara. The opening speech was made by the former Minister of Health, Halil Şıvgın in the panel organized for the occasion of the arrival of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the leader of the Independence War, who changed the fate of the Turkish nation. Şıvgın talked about the long history of Ankara in his speech. Mentioning the importance of Ankara in terms of the governments in a long history from the Seljuq Empire to the war of independence, Şıvgın also stated that the choosing Ankara as the capital city was not a coincidence, but an intentional preference due to Ankara’s characteristics nourished by the morals of ahi community.
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Uslan said “I’m honored to host such an event for the 97th Anniversary of Atatürk’s arrival in Ankara in the name of Gazi University, acquiring its name from the leader of the Republic of Turkey, Gazi Mustafa Kemal in Ankara, the city for which Hacı Bayram Veli pounded his protective shield and served as a spiritual architect. Encountering a night of treason in July the 15th, Ankara also served as the center of our mighty nation, who protected the independence and future of our country just as the War of Independence.”
Nevzat Ceylan, Ak Parti Ankara Deputy mentioned in the panel that Ankara, which have served as the capital city for three countries before the Turkish nation in the past.
Session moderation was carried out by Prof. Dr. Hale Şıvgın, the Director of Atatürk’s Principles and the History of Turkish Revolution Research and Application Center. Prof. Dr. İlhami Durmuş, the Dean of the Gazi University’s Faculty of Letters delivered a presentation titled “Historical and Strategical Importance of Ankara” while Doç. Dr. Nejla Günay, Lecturer at the Gazi University’s Faculty of Education delivered a presentation titled “Mustafa Kemal’s Arrival in Ankara and the Locals of Ankara”.
A cinevision screening consisting of the old images of Ankara and Seymen performance also took place in the event.
The awards were presented to the students of Gazi University who attended and ranked in the Atatürk Race.
